Konark Sun Temple - Odisha Eco Tourism

Konark meaning the Sun describes the famous 13th century Sun temple built of black granite by king Narshimhadeva I is a world heritage site. Konark is also known for the famous ‘Konark dance festival’ held in the month of December. The temple is built in the form of gigantic chariot with tweleve pairs of wheels pulled by seven horses. The ruins and fallen sculptures of the temple are preserved in Sun temple museum run by Archaeological survey of India. Ramachandi temple is another attraction at Konark. Kuruma a scenic Buddhist site is at a distance 8kms from Konark.

How to Reach Konark: The nearest airport at Bhubneshwar is at a distance of 64kms. The closest railway station is at Puri at a distance of 31kms from Konark. Pre-paid taxis and various other modes of transport facilities are available from the railway station to Konark. Regular govt. and private bus service connects Konark to other towns and cities of Odisha. Private Volvo bus services are handy from Puri to Konark (36 km), Bhubaneshwar (66 km), Cuttack (80.5 km).
